SK ecoplant will acquire a stake in the portfolio, subject to the completion of government approvals.   The BadaEnergy portfolio comprises more than 2 GW of floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind farms off the coast of Ulsan and South Jeolla province. This includes the 1.5 GW Gray Whale project, expected to become one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind developments.  Leveraging its offshore engineering, procurement and construction expertise, leading South Korean company SK ecoplant will join the partners in taking the projects from early planning through licensing and construction to operation. The partnership with SK ecoplant will provide an opportunity to develop the BadaEnergy projects to the highest standards, with a high level of local content. •       Contractors selected to perform front-end engineering design for the Ulsan floating offshore wind project Gray Whale 3.•       Joint project developers Corio Generation and TotalEnergies selected two engineering groups: Hyundai Heavy Industries-Doris Engineering and Technip Energies-Samkang M&T-Subsea 7. 2022. 8. 11, Seoul – Corio Generation, a wholly owned Green Investment Group (GIG) portfolio company, and TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company, announced on 11 Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contracts for Gray Whale 3, one of three Ulsan floating offshore wind projects.  Gray Whale 3, a planned 504 MW wind farm around 60 to 70 kilometers from Onsan Port, is one of three floating offshore wind farms totaling 1.5 gigawatts being developed by Corio and TotalEnergies off the coast of Ulsan. Two groups of contractors have now been selected for Gray Whale 3: one group is Hyundai Heavy Industries and Doris Engineering, and the other group is Technip Energies, Samkang M&T and Subsea 7. The two groups will perform FEED services for floater, mooring and inter-array cables in collaboration with a wind turbine supplier. The contracts award will build a collaborative partnership between the European and Korean companies. This reflects Corio and TotalEnergies’ aim to share advanced experience and technology, support the local supply chain in South Korea, and support the development of the country’s offshore wind industry. Corio and TotalEnergies aim to bring world class fabrication know-how from early stage of engineering. It is fundamental to industrialize the fabrication processes in order for the floating industry to become cost effective. The kit also holds environmental significance in that it is made of upcycled materials. It consists of a reusable bag along with a game board, playing cards, dice, game pieces, and instructions. The kit allows kids to easily learn how to sort and recycle items that are commonly seen and used in daily life, which can be quite difficult for them to learn, while enjoying a game with family and friends.   The board of the 'Bag to the Green' is designed as a mat made of upcycled fabric printed with spaces that game pieces can move on. Accordingly, it can be used as a board for a game, and also as a mat in daily lives, letting people make better use of it. These standards or specifications are published by recognized international bodies such as ISO, IEC, etc. and serve to provide proof that a product, system or service is safe and performs as promised. Unlike the certification of specific systems, such as wind turbines and marine units, certification is not a mandatory administrative requirement, but provides higher credibility by guaranteeing consistency of design and construction in the overall development of the floating offshore wind farm as well as the comprehensive certification of the project. This project certification applies to the floating offshore wind project of the coast of Ulsan. The projects were granted an electricity business license (EBL) by February this year from the Electricity Regulatory Commission under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and have begun the procedure for the preparation of the projects. Corio and TotalEnergies, private developers of this project, are developing a joint project for offshore wind farms with a total capacity of more than 2 gigawatts in Ulsan City and South Jeolla Province (Geomundo and Maenggoldo). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bureau Veritas and Korean Register in March 2022 aimed at cooperation and relations to enhance competences and capacity by sharing of technologies, information and experiences in the field of floating offshore wind farms in the East Sea of Korea. Happy Kids!,’ an eco-friendly program operated by the Ulsan Nam-gu Community Welfare Center. The program aims to inform children and their parents of how serious environmental problems are and to clean up the environment to solve the problems. A series of environmental conservation activities, such as eco-friendly education, water quality monitoring, and plogging (gathering litter while running) will be conducted around the Yeochoen Stream for about nine months from April to December this year.
