Seoul,
June 20 – Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind
Projects announced their participation in the “Jeollanam-do Offshore Wind
Industry Expo,” held at the Yeosu Expo Convention Center on June 18–19, where
they joined the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) together with the
provincial government, local municipalities, power generation companies, and
equipment manufacturers to promote the development of the offshore wind
industry and revitalize the local economy.
In addition to the
Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind Projects, the MoU was signed by
Jeollanam-do, three local governments of Yeosu City, Yeonggwang County, and
Sinan County, as well as private sector participants such as Myungwoon
Industrial Development, UTOP Construction, K-Wind Power, Donga Engineering, and
MSL Technology Co., Ltd. Together, the parties pledged to pursue strategic and
sustained collaboration to establish a robust offshore wind industry ecosystem
in Jeollanam-do.
Under the agreement,
Jeollanam-do Province and the participating municipalities will support the
creation of a favorable business environment through licensing and permitting
assistance, infrastructure development, community engagement, collaboration
with educational institutions, and institutional support. Power generation
companies will be responsible for the development, operation, and technical
support of offshore wind farms, as well as overall project management.
Equipment suppliers will contribute through engineering services, permitting
support, design, manufacturing, delivery, and maintenance of key components. In
particular, as project developers, the Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind
Projects will play a central role in establishing a localized supply chain for
core components such as turbines, substructures and blades, securing port
facilities and installation vessels, and building O&M (Operations and Maintenance)
centers. These efforts aim to build an integrated offshore wind industry
cluster with globally competitive capabilities.
During the
conference, Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind Projects delivered a
presentation on the current status of the offshore wind projects and strategies
for supply chain development. The projects also operated an on-site booth,
where they introduced the initiatives and held partnership meetings with
attendees, drawing significant interest from industry stakeholders.
A spokesperson from
Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind Projects stated:“We are pleased to
participate in this MoU aimed at advancing the offshore wind industry and
revitalizing the local economy in Jeollanam-do. We will continue our efforts to
ensure that the Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind Projects serve as a
foundation for the region’s offshore wind industry ecosystem.”
Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind Projects are part of
BadaEnergy, an offshore wind power portfolio jointly developed by Corio
Generation— a global offshore wind development specialist, TotalEnergies—a
global multi-energy Company, and SK ecoplant—an environmental and energy
solutions provider. Maenggoldo Offshore Wind Project, located near Maenggoldo
in Jindo County, Jeollanam-do, received an EBL for 600MW fixed-bottom offshore
wind power in 2023 and is accelerating the permitting process with the
commencement of its environmental impact assessment in late 2024. Meanwhile,
Geomundo Offshore Wind Project is under development in a marine area
approximately 10 kilometers west of Geomundo in the South Sea, with a planned
capacity of around 500MW. The project obtained its power generation license in
June 2022. On June 18, the Maenggoldo and Geomundo
Offshore Wind Projects participated in the ‘Jeollanam-do Offshore Wind Industry
Expo’ held at the Yeosu Expo Convention Center, where they joined the signing
of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the provincial government, local
municipalities, power generation companies, and equipment manufacturers to
promote the offshore wind industry and revitalize the local economy. On June 18, Jeon Jin-Hyung, Project Lead
of Maenggoldo and Geomundo Offshore Wind Projects, participated in the ‘Jeollanam-do
Offshore Wind Industry Expo’ held at the Yeosu Expo Convention Center, and gave
a presentation on BadaEnergy during the conference session ‘Offshore Wind
Project Status and Supply Chain Participation.’
