2023. 12. 11 – BadaEnergy, a portfolio of offshore wind projects in South Korea jointly developed by Corio Generation, TotalEnergies and SK ecoplant, announced on December 11 that it has awarded scholarships to five students majoring in new and renewable energy technology and innovation management at the UNIST Graduate School of Technology and Innovation Management.

Since BadaEnergy, UNIST and Ulsan Metropolitan City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for industry-university cooperation for the Ulsan floating offshore wind project in 2021, BadaEnergy has granted scholarships and given lectures on offshore wind power technologies and management every semester in an effort to foster future local talents for offshore wind. BadaEnergy also ran a six-month internship program last year, and the intern was recruited as a full-time employee earlier this year.

While the UNIST Graduate School of Technology and Innovation Management offers a range of curricula on renewable energy, including energy system analysis as well as offshore wind technology and business management, BadaEnergy takes on the offshore wind technology and management course on an annual basis by delivering practical experience and know-how in all stages of offshore wind development.

Besides scholarships, the awarded students will also be given opportunities to take part in BadaEnergy’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and corporate social responsibilities (CSR) activities, and engage in networking of related fields, along with preferential consideration for internship and employment from BadaEnergy.

“The offshore wind industry is rapidly expanding as a new sector amidst the climate crisis, and there is a growing need for offshore wind specialists,” BadaEnergy said. “Based on our partnership with UNIST, we will give all our attention and support to train offshore wind professionals with global competitiveness systematically and to create a virtuous cycle of employment with Ulsan floating offshore wind farm.”

Choi Young-rok, Dean of UNIST Graduate School of Technology and Innovation Management, said: “We deeply appreciate the continued support of the global offshore wind leading companies Corio, TotalEnergies and SK ecoplant for the industry-academic cooperation program, which provides scholarships to our excellent students, as well as expertise and vivid experiences in the field of offshore wind.”

Currently, BadaEnergy is developing a portfolio of projects, including the floating offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 1.5GW (project name: Gray Whale 1,2,3) off the coast of Ulsan.
