“Let’s learn the importance of carbon neutrality through education and terrarium-making”

BadaEnergy conducts carbon neutrality education campaign ‘Together with Ocean’ 

at Ulsan Myeongchon Elementary School

 

•        In collaboration with the National Ocean Science Museum, BadaEnergy conducted a carbon neutrality education campaign, ‘Together with Ocean’, at Ulsan Myeongchon Elementary School.

•        The 2^nd campaign, part of local ESG programs, designed for future generations, including elementary school students, to learn about carbon neutrality and marine environmental protection.

 

 

[2023. 07. 03] BadaEnergy, a joint portfolio developing offshore wind projects in South Korea developed by Corio Generation, TotalEnergies and SK ecoplant, announced on July 3 that it conducted the campaign, titled ‘Together with Ocean,’ where students can learn the significance of carbon neutrality and marine environmental protection, at Ulsan Myeongchon Elementary School in collaboration with the National Ocean Science Museum (Director Seo Jang-wu).

  

The campaign ‘Together with Ocean (Subtitled: Net Zero Emissions #We Promise You #We are With You)’ is a local ESG program designed for future generations, including elementary school students fighting against climate crisis, to learn about carbon neutrality and marine environmental protection. This campaign has been sponsored by BadaEnergy, promoting the floating offshore wind projects located off the coast of Ulsan Metropolitan City for two consecutive years. 

 

The ‘Together with Ocean’ campaign, comprised of two sessions, was held on June 29 and 30 for four classes of six graders with Carbon Diet Week at Myeongchon Elementary School, which was designated as ‘Core School for Carbon-Neutrality’ from 2022 to 2023 by the six ministries including the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Education.

 

During the first session, the National Ocean Science Museum (KOSM), the only institution in Korea that offers education and exhibitions of marine science, conducted the ‘Zero carbon emission’ class focused on enhancing the awareness of blue carbon and the importance of the ocean for carbon neutrality by playing a game with the coding robot ‘Ozobot.’

 

The second session was a hands-on education program titled ‘Making a DIY terrarium’ prepared by BadaEnergy, where the students experienced a small marine ecosystem composed of whales in the sea of Ulsan and Ionantha air plants. Through a lecture and these hands-on activities, the participating students recognized the significance of protecting marine environment and achieving carbon neutrality.  The experience stimulated the students to pledge  continued interest and greater efforts to participate in  environmental activities. 

 

BadaEnergy said: “We find it very rewarding to be able to raise interest and curiosity of young minds in the concept of carbon neutrality through the use of marine energy and conservation of marine ecosystem.  This is our  second campaign with KOSM, following last year’s success. We aim to engage with and communicate with the local communities and continue to develop various educational programs for future generations.”

 

The National Ocean Science Museum said: “We are grateful to BadaEnergy for providing a great educational opportunity to let students know that oceans play an important role in carbon neutrality. We also plan to further expand this education program in upcoming September, starting from Ulsan Myeongchon Elementary School.” 

 

Centering on Ulsan, BadaEnergy continuously expands ESG activities for a sustainable future and co-prospering development with the local community. Last year, it sponsored the eco-friendly program ‘Eco Mom! Happy Kids!’ and participated in an activity to clean up the Yeocheon Stream operated by the Ulsan Nam-gu Community Welfare Center.

It also sponsored the production of ChildFund Korea’s environmental education kit ‘Bag to the Green.

 

Meanwhile, BadaEnergy is developing floating offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 1.5GW (project name: Gray Whale I, II, and III) off the coast of Ulsan.
