June 19, 2023 – BadaEnergy, a portfolio of
offshore wind projects in South Korea jointly developed by Corio Generation,
TotalEnergies and SK ecoplant, announced that it had signed a front-end
engineering design (FEED) contract with KEPCO E&C for the onshore power
supply system at the Gray Whale 3 offshore wind farm.
The contract signing ceremony was held at
BadaEnergy's Seoul office on June 16 and attended by BadaEnergy Deputy Project
Director Guillaume Le Maréchal, Project Director James Polkinghorne and Heo
Yong, PM of SK ecoplant, as well as KEPCO E&C's Senior Director of Renewable
Energy Business Department Ko Myung-sook and Team Manager Park Bum-soo.
Gray Whale 3, a planned 504 MW wind farm around 60
to 70 kilometers from Onsan Port, is one of three floating offshore wind farms totaling
1.5 gigawatts being developed by BadaEnergy stakeholders off the coast of
Ulsan.
Under the contract, KEPCO E&C will perform as
the FEED contractor for onshore cable route design and onshore substations of the
Gray Whale 3.
“We are delighted that KEPCO E&C, which has a
high level of FEED capability, provides the FEED of the onshore power supply
system for the Gray Whale 3,” BadaEnergy said. “We look forward to KEPCO
E&C successfully carrying out the service and to showcasing the synergy between
the two parties internally and externally.”
KEPCO E&C said, “Grid connections are
instrumental for large-scale offshore wind projects.”, adding, “We will
actively support BadaEnergy to successfully implement the Gray Whale 3 with our
experiences in designing lots of power plants and power systems.”
Meanwhile, the project implemented by BadaEnergy aims to construct 1.5-gigawatt wind turbines in public waters about 60 kilometers east of Ulsan Port. Once the third phase of the project is completed, the wind farm is expected to be one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind farms.
