social acceptance in France
2023. 06. 05 – On May 26th, Guillaume Le Maréchal,
Managing Director of TotalEnergies Offshore Wind Korea (Deputy Project Director
of BadaEnergy), shared experiences in the field of offshore wind power projects
in Korea and best practices for community acceptance in France at the France-Korea
Offshore Wind Seminar in the 2023 World Climate Industry Expo (WCE) held at the
Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) in Busan.
The France-Korea Offshore Wind Seminar was
co-hosted by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency(ADEME) and the
Korea Energy Agency(KEA), with French ambassador to the Republic of Korea Phillipe Lefort and offshore wind experts attending.
The WCE 2023, which was held from May 25
to 27 is the nation's largest exhibition of climate change and the energy
industry, and a great many domestic and foreign companies in the field of
climate energy, government officials, representatives of international
organizations and institutions attended the event.
Guillaume Le Maréchal, who delivered a
presentation at the seminar on the theme of ‘offshore wind power community
acceptance: initiatives and challenges,’ said, “BadaEnergy is actively participating
in activities to know more about stakeholders including the villagers at every
development stage, aiming for mutual cooperation agreement that can contribute
to the village.”
Regarding community acceptance, he emphasized
that the core of social acceptance is ‘co-existence with local community.’ In
Ulsan city, the Ulsan Floating Offshore Wind Association was recently launched
with the goal of promoting the development of the offshore wind industry in
Ulsan in attendance of the UCCI’s chairman and representatives of five member
companies. BadaEnergy is continuously expanding environmental education to achieve
a sustainable future and growth of the local economy for future generations
focused on elementary schools in Ulsan and cooperation with UNIST to foster
local talent in the offshore wind power sector.
He also expressed his gratitude to ADEME,
KEA and the French embassy to the Republic of Korea for the opportunity to
share experiences in the offshore wind.
In May 2021, TotalEnergies, which rebranded its name from Total to TotalEnergies with an ambition to become a global multi-energy company, is currently developing a portfolio of offshore wind projects with a total capacity of more than 11 GW. In Korea, the company operates BadaEnergy portfolio, a joint offshore wind project, by joining forces with Corio Generation(‘Corio’), Green Investment Group (GIG)’s specialist offshore wind business, and leading South Korean company SK ecoplant. BadaEnergy portfolio comprises more than 2GW of offshore wind projects in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off Ulsan and South Jeolla Province (Geomundo and Maenggoldo).
